A Brief History of Rants

I'm consolidating my blogs as I just get confused trying to think of what story should go with what topic. The following were my blogs from a previous site, presented in their entirety for your intellectual pleasure!

The Party of "Smaller Government" Intercedes Again

Every time I think I'm over-using the phrase, government action makes me break it out again...YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!"

The Republicans, the party who tells the voters with a straight face they they are the party of small government, started the Bush presidency by adding a whole new governmental office. They proceeded by trying to intervene on states' laws regarding right-to-die, moved on to investigating steroids in sports and is now showing their minimilist approach by investigating if the college bowl games are fair! This is just a short list of the Republican's view of "smaller government".

Do card-carrying Republicans really vote for their candidates because they believe the Republicans believe in a smaller government? What will make voters finally believe the Republicans are as big-government as the Democrats (or the Communists); if they start minimizing privacy rights?...Oh wait, they've done THAT too!

People, stop the madness! Stop the hypocrisy!! Do me a favor, let's try this action plan: 1) Start by writing to your government representatives any time these bullcrap rumblings start being heard. Tell them to invade a country, tell them to raise taxes, tell them to accept another bribe but BEG them to keep their noses out of events the government has no business being involved in! 2) Next, start voting Libertarian. Read the platform at www.lp.org and see what a gameplan REALLY involves when you want a minimilist government.

This is folly and it's clear to me our politicians have NO shame regarding government intervention. I have to get going as I just came across an idea to put in my Congressman's ear: I think we should have government hearings to determine if government is operating efficiently and "fairly"....My GAWD they could run with that and stay busy for years!!

Shame On You, Republicans!

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/31/sheehan.arrest/index.htm

Freedom of expression, either through speech, writing or symbolic gestures, is the single most important distinction between a free county and one run by despots. To be unable or afraid to publicly express our views without risk of arrest begins a very big first step away from the very core this great nation was founded on.

On January 31st, during a Presidential speech in our nation’s capitol, a mother whose son was killed in Iraq was arrested for wearing a t-shirt protesting the war! This woman threatened no one. This mother who lost her soldier son neither shouted obscenities nor displayed a threatening manner; yet she was handcuffed and escorted away from the capitol of the most democratic nation in the world.

The U.S.A. is trying to send a world-wide message of the benefits of democracy, yet we arrest a citizen for wearing a t-shirt that opposes our Present’s positions. As an American citizen that terrifies me.

What is your position regarding this incident? What amends can possibly be made to the American citizens and to foreign nationalists when the image of the arrest…For a t-shirt…is transmitted abroad?

Shame On You, Rep. McKinney!

Congresswoman in Capitol Fight Apologizes - Yahoo! News

That's right, Cynthia, you apologized but your actions should not be forgiven with that apology.

It's one thing to simply assume that, because of your position as a government representative, you are exempt from the rules that "average" citizens have to abide by; but to play the "race card" to divert attention away from your actions is a shameful act.

Your claims that the actions of security officials were "racist" not only undermine the integrity of the security staff, they also undermine legitimate claims of racism.

You are a representative of our government and, by extension, a representative of the American people. Trying to use claims of racism to cover up your inappropriate actions casts a shadow on what the country stands for, and undermines any advances made in race relations.

Do the right thing, Rep. McKinney; resign the position the people of your district entrusted you with. Certainly you must recognize your actions are an emberrasment to your position and the people who thought you would do the right acting in their behalf.

Government's Version of "Tightening The Belt"

WOODTV.com & WOOD TV8 - Grand Rapids news and weather - Granholm urges action related to state's business tax structure

I LOVE to bust on the Federal government for inept, irresponsible behavior...It's sooo easy to do. But the concept of being willing to spend other people's money is just as accepted at the state level as well.

Apparently our honorable Governor isn't opposed to eliminating the single-business tax in our state...As long as it's replaced with another tax! Nevermind the concept of sacrificing during lean times, cutting pork projects, etc. No, let's just make sure we keep up the status quo of continuous legalized plunder.

This is a little different compared to how it works for the average American (Michigan) citizen. See, if a citizen experiences tough times, the citizen has to cut out "extras" in his life; cigar clubs, cable t.v....Food, that type of thing. The government mentality is not to make sacrifices when its forfeiture-given right to tax money is curtailed. See, they simply figure out a way to REPLACE that lost revenue. By the way, that means maintaining the same or greater level of taxation on the average citizen...Who, again, doesn't have that option.

Here's an idea, Guv; Instead of asking how you're going to replace that lost "revenue"; why not ask where there can be cuts in the budget to offset the lost "revenue"? My wife and I do!

Then again, my wife & I don't have the power of liens, garnishments, etc. to force others to pay our bills. Hmmm...I gotta figure out where to sign up for THAT option!!

CNN.com - Senate halts minimum-wage bill

CNN.com - Senatehalts minimum-wage bill - Aug 3, 2006

Poor & disenfranchised or those wealthy patronizing jerks that feign supoport for the poor & disenfranchised, I hope this is finally an indicator that the Democrats are no more "for you" than the Republicans are.

As you can see, the Democrats voted to deny an increase in the minimum wage because they were scared they would lose tax revenue from the estate tax. Consider this; the estate tax is a tax imposed on a citizen on what is left of his/her "fortune" AFTER he/she has died. In other words, all the property that the deceased had been paying taxes on during life is to be taxed 1 more time upon death...Puts a new spin on "you can't take it with you".

So the Democrats, instead of surrendering one last run at legalized plunder, will instead sacrifice a pay raise to the constituents they so strongly claim to represent the best interest of. Consider this also; according to our finest in D.C., only about 1%-3% of the estates would even fall into the "death tax" qualification. So the Democrats, brave and consistent defenders of the poor, denied a minimum wage increase so that they can be assured tax money from 1% of the deaths in America! With defenders like that I'll take my chances with the French army thank you!!

All I can say is if you are a salt-of-the-eath, blue-collar, hard-working American, or if behind the window tint of your Mercedes in Hollywood you profess to being an advocate of said hard-working Americans, consider this latest move by your "party of choice". In the world of politics, our politicians will choose funds for their special projects over supporting the poor any vote they get.

Good night and good luck.
