Evolution vs. Creationism Hysteria

So, I'm reading through the news articles and find that a Charleston, South Carolina theater will not show a movie about deep-sea volcanoes because the film discusses microbes that spew from underwater volcanoes and their possible connection to evolution. The theater won't show this film because they're afraid it might offend the sensibilities of those that believe in creationism. I have to be truthful; this seemed so ridiculous that I had to confirm I wasn't reading another satirical bit from The Onion. Unfortunately, I wasn't.

I tend to be a deist. So, though I believe there is a "Higher Power", I do not believe in the mythologies purported by any of the "recognized" religions nor do I tend to believe that the Higher Power interferes with our day-to-day activities. Being able to sit from that lofty perch I say, quite frankly, you hard-core debaters of evolution vs. creation are crazy. Those that change business practices to pander to these whack-jobs are as silly as politicians who cast votes based on polling vs. principle. The fact is, NEITHER side has all that compelling of an argument and NONE of us are really going to know the truth until we flatline...And despite what the PAX network is reporting, there are not too many credible people giving reports from "the other side".

Evolutionists, I simply can't buy your scenarios when all of the literature is rife with "we think that..." and "it appears that...". It sounds like too much speculation in those phrases for me to accept you guys are really all that sure about what you're spewing. And I can go to the ocean, grab fish, and throw them on to shore until the sun explodes and I ASSURE you not a single fish will "evolve" lungs or somehow communicate to his progeny the need to develop lungs in the egg. Let's also not forget that there is not only one (1) missing fossil link, but a missing fossil link for every step of the evolutionary process!

Don't giggle, creationists...Your concept of disregarding existing fossil evidence and choosing to ignore documented historical timelines shows an arrogance of opinion that borders on child-like ignorance!

Unlike your camps, I don't pretend to know the true story...It probably lies somewhere in between your arguments. The excitement for me is learning the truth some day, not in boycotting perspectives to bolster my own. Both of you think about that the next time you don't go to a movie because what scares you is not the movie itself, rather the paradigm shift it MIGHT create in you.

I read the same story in our local paper. Amazing that two camps, one based on myth and another on speculation, should be settled by the lawyers. Their fear of litigation (also known as political correctness) is their only common ground it seems.
