USATODAY.com - 'Bud Pong' pulled; brewer shocked beer used in game
If there is one thing I hate more than political correctness it's pandering to those that try to turn us all into politically correct automatons.
Look; Budweiser created (or probably elaborated on) a drinking game. There are a lot of drinking games out there and, quite frankly, this is one of the least creative of some I've played. Budweiser marketed this game, provided ancillary equipment to enhance the game experience and proudly displayed their trademark during the events...At bars. It appears to have really caught on.
Somewhere along the line someone sobered up enough to realize that this game Anheuser-Busch is promoting is a beverage game and A-B sells beverages....Alcoholic beverages. Now, of course, some express outrage and A-B suddenly realizes that people may fill their "Pong" glasses with beer instead of water, contrary to the instuctions the Budweiser-sponsored game direct. Their shock leads them to pull the game and denounce the rule changes that they had no control of. Anheuser-Busch, in one press release, has gone from a company with plausible deniability of foolishness to chumps. Let me explain....
Budweiser sponsored this event. Budweiser is a beer. The event(s) occurred in bars. So far there is no indication that under-age drinkers were involved (i.e. consenting-age adults played). No problem so far...
Someone catches wind of people using beer in a drinking game. I'll bet this person(s) was either A) A right-wing nut who believes alcohol should only be consumed in church or speak-easies...Or...B) A left-wing nut who believes the corrupt & powerful advertising of money-hungry Budweiser tricked her into consuming beer instead of water during her "Pong" game...At the bar. Common sense begins to wane...
Finally, Anheuser-Busch bows to the PC, feigns outrage that adults would corrupt the innocence of their game...Conducted at bars...and Budweiser immediately pulls the game and distances themselves from controversy. Bye-Bye logic, hello PC!
What SHOULD have happened was this:
Adults play a beer-drinking game in the bar. Adults go home and wake up with a hangover. Story over.
I'm begging American citizens everywhere...Stop this nonsense of politically correct behavior. I'm begging American corporations everywhere...If you're promoting & selling a legal product, stop caving in to these PC whack-jobs when they beging there hand-wringing press campaigns!!
